As part of the university’s keeping pace with the
great interest that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi gives to the sustainable development and spreading its goals as part of implementing Egypt’s Vision 2030, and to increase environmental awareness among members of society in general and the Upper Egypt region in particular, Sohag University established Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research to be the first research faculty for the environmental sciences of Inter-specializations in southern Egypt, in line with the national strategy for higher education and scientific research launched by Professor Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in terms of expanding various specializations and linking scientific research with industry.
The university is keen to get the highest benefit from the material and human capabilities to achieve the state’s development goals aimed at developing education by developing the scientific and skillful competence of the human element, as well as to conduct advanced studies in areas related to the environment to find innovative and sustainable solutions to the current and future environmental problems that face our society and hinder any progress and development, Prosperity, preservation and development of natural resources and ensuring their sustainability.
The university also aspires to be part of the overall vision of the Egyptian state in the era of the new republic to provide innovative and sustainable solutions to environmental problems (energy problems, climate change, water resources, reducing thermal emissions and protecting biodiversity… etc.).
The current specializations that were approved to start according to the Ministerial Resolution No. (490) dated March 10, 2024 are considered just the beginning, as preparations are currently being made to add other new specializations that serve the environment and society, such as: medical environmental sciences, agricultural environmental sciences, educational sciences and environmental media, Environmental legal sciences, business and environmental engineering sciences.
The university values the effective role of the staff members and their assistants in enriching scientific research, being distinguished in publishing it, and solving the problems of the external community, as called for by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, which resulted in the establishment of this faculty.
I hope that it will come off and contribute in boosting the university ranking in the international ranking.
